Today, the quality of water bodies in Switzerland is good. However, in the 1960s and 1970s, many rivers and lakes were highly polluted.
Water protection in Switzerland is based on three pillars:
- Wastewater treatment
- Source control
- Restoration of rivers and streams
… and is regulated by a comprehensive legislation.
